Basic Office Ergonomics at Workplace
Enquiry NowErgonomics is a science-based discipline that brings together knowledge from other subjects such as anatomy and physiology, psychology, engineering and statistics to ensure that designs complement the strengths and abilities of people and minimize the effects of their limitations.
COURSE INTRODUCTION
Today’s world required human being to interact with Information Technology (IT), the advancement in Information Technology (IT), and to remain highly productive & competitive, office workers are expected to spend long hours sitting on a chair facing the VDU (visual display unit) or glued to the workstation. The job instructions, work orders, communication, work status, information, news and other information that are communicated to users via VDU and internet are things that we cannot avoided.
Prolonged exposure to VDU works is the onset of musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) or chronic injuries among users. The examples of MSDs are backaches, persistent pain and discomfort on their body parts (neck, shoulders, hands, and legs), carpal tunnel syndrome, tennis elbow, tendonitis, etc.
The ONLY WAY to combat the onset of musculoskeletal injuries among VDU users is to have a proactive ergonomics program which focuses on increasing awareness among workers and practical measures to eliminate root causes of musculoskeletal injuries for computer works. MSDs can be detected, reported and reduced or eliminated, provided the risk factors are fully understood.
